A Response to Artificial Information (AI)
The unexpected usage of Skype and Zoom in Jungian psychotherapy was a challenge for most practising Jungian analysts. Now, some years later, it appears this modified style of analysis is here to stay.
Another new challenge has emerged-the arrival of Artificial Imagination (AI). Analysts are slowly exploring how new software helps and supports the therapeutic processes.
Here are some areas of exploration:
- Teaching Jungian psychology
- Improving some areas of Training courses
- Explore whether there are ways of assisting the therapeutic processes
AI is still in its infancy. It has certain limitations that require caution, and these are:
- Some responses can be inaccurate, and may need to be checked before being moved forward etc
- Some AI bots may not have their up-to-date data in place. When this happens, Google Search is the answer.
- To avoid unnecessary limitations in the responses, it is important to develop skills to prompt (question) the Artificial Intelligence
What is happening psychologically?
A new psychological component is emerging from the unconscious. From the point of view of wholeness and self-regulation, consciousness cannot deny or resist the impact of AI. It can do this because the psyche is dynamic and not a static entity.
Analysis, psychotherapy and Artificial Intelligence – a way forward
All professional groups would benefit from having a Study Group or a designated member who would keep the members informed of the latest challenges and developments in AI.
Should a therapist have an AI plan/subscription?
At present, a basic free plan seems adequate. Paid plans are more suitable for academics.
